Unified Socialist calls Standing Committee meeting to address internal disputes

KATHMANDU: The Unified Socialist party has scheduled a Standing Committee meeting for September 10 to address ongoing internal disputes.

The meeting, to be held at the party’s central office in Aloknagar, will focus on various issues including the organization of provincial, district, and affiliated committee conventions, resolution of internal conflicts, and formulation of upcoming party strategies, according to Damodar Aryal, Deputy Head of the party’s Central Propaganda Department.

Aryal stated that the agenda also includes a review of current political developments, implementation of socialist programs, and assessment of the party’s organizational initiatives.

The discussion will also evaluate the nationwide impact of the party’s socialist campaign, which aims to promote social transformation through good governance, employment generation, and prosperity.

He added that the meeting will determine the next phase of the campaign by reviewing the progress of mass mobilization efforts and the work carried out by the task force led by General Secretary Ghanshyam Bhusal.

The committee is also expected to endorse a proposal promoting cooperation and coordination among parties with a socialist ideology, as well as fostering unity among leftist forces. Strengthening the Socialist Front will be a key topic of discussion.

Tensions have recently escalated within the party, following a public disagreement between Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal and senior leader Jhalanath Khanal. The dispute arose after Khanal, in a recent interview, stated that the decision to split from UML had been a mistake.
