Gyanendra Shahi demands probe into 14 Home Ministers over visa scam

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chief Whip Gyanendra Shahi on Thursday demanded an investigation into 14 current and former Home Ministers in connection with the controversial visit visa scandal.

Speaking in the House of Representatives, Shahi named former Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula to the incumbent Ramesh Lekhak as figures who should be brought under the scope of a formal probe.

He argued that the issue transcends party lines and urged all political parties to unite in addressing the scandal.

“This is not an issue of any single party—it concerns the entire nation. All parties should come together to ensure accountability,” Shahi said.

He reiterated his party’s demand for the formation of a parliamentary investigation committee and made it clear that their protest would continue until the committee is formed.

Despite the ongoing protest, Speaker Devraj Ghimire proceeded with the House’s scheduled agenda. In response, lawmakers from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) surrounded the Speaker’s rostrum and chanted slogans, while RPP lawmakers boycotted the session altogether.

Shahi also advised the government not to force the Speaker to run the House under protest, highlighting that the issue deserves thorough scrutiny and nonpartisan cooperation.
