Meetings of both Houses of Federal Parliament taking place

KATHMANDU: Meetings of both Houses of the Federal Parliament are scheduled to take place today. The meeting of the House of Representatives will convene at 11:00 AM, while the National Assembly will meet at 1:15 PM.

In the House of Representatives, discussions will commence on the Appropriation Bill, 2082. The session is expected to focus on grouped discussions covering various budgetary titles under seven different ministries.

These include the Ministry of Forests and Environment; Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration; Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation; Ministry of Defense; Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development; Ministry of Health and Population; and Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.

The Parliament Secretariat has stated that the agenda also includes the presentation of expenditure reduction proposals submitted under the titles of the aforementioned ministries in relation to the Appropriation Bill.

Additionally, Ramhari Khatiwada, Chairperson of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee, informed that the meeting will include the submission of the committee’s report on the Nepal Citizenship (Second Amendment) Bill, 2082.

Meanwhile, members of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSWP) and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) have stated that they would continue to obstruct proceedings in the House of Representatives.

They are demanding the resignation of the Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak and the disbanding of the Commission of Inquiry over the ‘visit visa’ controversy. RSP leaders have affirmed that the obstruction will continue until their demands are met.

In the National Assembly, today’s agenda includes oral questions directed to the relevant ministers from the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation.

Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel is also expected to respond to questions raised during the general discussion on the annual revenue and expenditure estimates for fiscal year 2082/83.

Kamala Panta, Chairperson of the Development, Economic Affairs and Good Governance Committee, will present a report titled Study on Nepal’s Graduation from Least Developed Country to Developing Country Status, 2081.

In addition, Finance Minister Poudel will present a proposal to refer the Exchange Bill, 2080—recently received from the House of Representatives—to the Legislative Management Committee for clause-wise deliberation.

The National Assembly meeting will also include a condolence motion honoring the late Constituent Assembly member Birendra Juharchan and former House of Representatives member Dhundiraj Shastri.
