SC officer who sent Resham Chaudhary to jail illegally released on bail

KATHMANDU: Mahiman Singh Bista, a section officer at the Supreme Court who wrote an unauthorized letter ordering the transfer of Nagarik Unmukti Party founder Resham Chaudhary to Dillibazar jail for four hours, has been released on bail.

The bench of Judge Dinbandhu Baral at the Kathmandu District Court ordered his release on a bail amount of Rs 100,000. Bista posted the bail and was released on Monday.

On April 30, Bista had sent a letter—unauthorized by the Supreme Court—to the District Police Office, following which Chaudhary was arrested from an event at the Nepal Academy and transferred to Dillibazar Jail. Bista personally delivered the letter to the police, who immediately detained Chaudhary.

However, after it was confirmed that the letter was unauthorized, Resham Chaudhary was released four hours later the same evening.

Following the incident, the Supreme Court administration handed over Bista to the police. He later stated that he had issued the letter in an attempt to bring peace to the souls of the victims of the Tikapur incident.
