Habeas corpus petition for Rabi Lamichhane scheduled in Supreme Court bench

KATHMANDU: A habeas corpus petition filed on behalf of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane has been scheduled for hearing in a joint bench of the Supreme Court.

The petition has been assigned to the joint bench of Chief Justice Prakashman Singh Raut and Justice Nityananda Pandey.

Previously, the hearing on Lamichhane’s petition had been repeatedly postponed under the pretext of being “under review” or “not for hearing.”

The petition was filed by Lamichhane’s wife, Nikita Paudel, claiming that her husband was being held in detention unlawfully. Lamichhane is currently in pretrial detention on charges related to fraud in the Butwal-based Supreme Savings and Credit Cooperative case.

On April 4, the Butwal bench of the High Court Tulsipur had ordered Lamichhane to be sent to judicial custody for further investigation.
