T20 World Cup qualifier: Nepali women’s team faces UAE

KATHMANDU: Nepal is set to take on the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday in the Women’s T20 World Cup Asian Zone Qualifier being held in Thailand.

This will be Nepal’s first match in the Super 3 stage of the tournament. A win will secure Nepal a spot in the global qualifiers for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, while a loss will eliminate them from the tournament.

Hosts Thailand have already secured their place in the global qualifiers ahead of the Super 3 round.

In Sunday’s match, Thailand defeated UAE by 45 runs. Nepal, Thailand, and UAE qualified for the Super 3 as winners of Group C, Group A, and Group B, respectively. Each team in the Super 3 will play once against the others.

Nepal is scheduled to play its second Super 3 match against Thailand on Tuesday. The top two teams from this stage will advance to the global qualifiers.

A total of ten teams will compete in the global qualifiers. So far, Bangladesh, Scotland, and the United States have secured their spots.

Remaining teams from Asia, Europe, Africa, and the East Asia Pacific region will be finalized in the coming weeks.
