Kathmandu District Court greenlights child abuse case based on report

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu District Court has ruled that a case related to child sexual abuse can be filed based on a report prepared by a child psychologist and social worker from the Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

The ruling was issued on Sunday by Judge Kamal Prasad Pokharel, affirming that the report and statement submitted by the Metropolitan City regarding the sexual abuse of a schoolgirl in Ward No. 4 can be used as the basis for legal proceedings.

The case involves allegations of sexual abuse by the girl’s own father and her cousin (uncle’s son), which were documented in the report submitted to the court.

The court’s decision marks a significant step toward recognizing professional assessments by child psychologists and social workers as credible evidence in child sexual abuse cases.

Legal experts have welcomed the decision, stating that it could strengthen the protection of child rights and ensure that professional assessments play a crucial role in prosecuting such sensitive cases.
