Nepal and Cambodia explore partnership for larger Buddha Circuit

KATHMANDU: Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Badri Prasad Pandey has explored the possibility of a partnership between Nepal and Cambodia in constructing a larger Buddha Circuit.

The potential collaboration was discussed during a meeting with Cambodian Minister of Tourism Huot Hak and Minister of Culture and Religious Affairs Chai Borin on Tuesday in Cambodia.

The meeting, held at the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Religious Affairs of Cambodia, focused on coordination and cooperation between the two countries in the fields of culture and tourism.

Minister Pandey, who is currently on an official visit to Cambodia, emphasized the historical and religious ties between the two nations.

He highlighted that major religious sites in Nepal, including Lumbini, Muktinath, and Janaki Temples, along with Cambodia’s iconic Angkor Wat, are significant pilgrimage destinations that reflect the deep-rooted connection between the countries.

Minister Pandey noted that the establishment of direct flights between Nepal and Cambodia could significantly boost tourism. He also reiterated Nepal’s commitment to fostering cultural and religious tourism through enhanced cooperation.

During the meeting, Cambodian Minister Huot Hak expressed gratitude to Nepal for providing a site in Lumbini to construct a Cambodian stupa, underlining it as a symbol of cultural harmony. He further proposed forming an ambassadorial and staff-level team to identify areas and modalities of bilateral cooperation.

Both sides agreed that enhancing connectivity and developing a larger Buddha Circuit would attract more tourists and strengthen the cultural ties between the two nations.
