Second suspect arrested for assault on Senior Advocate Dinesh Tripathi

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested another individual accused of assaulting Senior Advocate Dinesh Tripathi at the premises of the Kathmandu District Court.

The suspect is identified as Mahananda Jaisi, who is from Adanchuli Rural Municipality-4, Humla, and currently resides in Suryadarshan Height, Kathmandu. According to Kathmandu District Police, Jaisi also goes by the name Mahananda Pandey.

Jaisi was apprehended on Saturday from Tokha Municipality-3, Kathmandu. He is currently being held at the Singha Durbar Police Circle for further investigation.

The incident occurred last Wednesday when Tripathi, who was advocating against Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) chair Rabi Lamichhane in a cooperative fraud case, was assaulted outside the Kathmandu District Court in Babarmahal. The attackers also raised objectionable slogans during the incident.

Previously, police had arrested 48-year-old Lalit Kumar KC, a resident of Mahalaxmi Municipality-5, Tikathali, Lalitpur, with a permanent address in Tamakoshi Rural Municipality-1, Dolakha.

He is currently under investigation for attempted homicide.

Authorities have confirmed that the search for other individuals involved in the incident is ongoing.
