Gen-Z is the successor of the revolutionary movement: Prachanda

KATHMANDU: Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, coordinator of the convention organizing committee of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre), has said that solidarity among all sides is essential to ensure the success of the upcoming election scheduled for March 5.

Speaking at a tea reception and greetings exchange program organized by the All Nepal Federation of Trade Unions (ANTUF) at the party headquarters in Paris Danda on the occasion of Tihar, Nepal Sambat, and Chhath festivals, Prachanda said that all nationalist, democratic, and revolutionary forces need to unite to resolve the current political crisis.

“We are going through a very complex situation,” he said. “The most inclusive, practical, and national-interest-based way to safeguard the constitution and democracy is the election slated for March 5. To make it successful, solidarity is required among all political parties, civil society, intellectuals, journalists, and all concerned stakeholders.”

Former Prime Minister Dahal expressed that the interim government is committed to holding the elections on the scheduled date and hoped for a positive role from the international community to ensure their success.

Emphasizing the need to amend the constitution to address the aspirations of the Gen-Z movement, Prachanda stated, “The new parliament elected through the upcoming polls should initiate the process of constitutional amendment. We are ready to fulfill the expectations of the people.”

Highlighting that the forthcoming election is part of a constitutional and democratic process, he underscored the importance of holding it with national consensus to prevent further instability in the country.

Prachanda also informed that the leftist forces within the Socialist Front would soon announce their formal unification and stressed the need for democratic and nationalist forces to unite as well.

Calling the Gen-Z generation the successor of the revolutionary movement, he said, “Through the movement of September 8, the young generation has already demonstrated its political presence. They are not followers of others, they are the true successors of the revolutionaries.”

Meanwhile, Maoist leader Barshaman Pun stated that there is no alternative to addressing the aspirations and sentiments of Gen-Z youth. He added that the party has revised its policies and perspectives following the Gen-Z movement and demanded an impartial investigation into the infiltration that occurred during the protests.
