Want to take on top teams during T20 World Cup: Rohit Paudel

KATHMANDU: Nepali cricket team captain Rohit Paudel has expressed his desire to face India and Australia in the upcoming T20 World Cup scheduled next year in India and Sri Lanka.

Speaking after Nepal’s victory over Samoa on Friday, Paudel said he looked forward to competing against high-profile teams and putting up strong performances.

“Since the World Cup will be held in India, I hope to play against India, and also against Australia. England has also performed well, so we’ll get to play against top teams,” he said.

Nepal has previously played one One-Day International (ODI) and one T20I against India. However, matches against Australia, England, and New Zealand remain pending, opportunities that could materialize in the upcoming World Cup.

Paudel also extended his gratitude to the team officials, coaches, and players who have been instrumental in Nepal’s World Cup qualifying journey. “Everyone has contributed from their respective roles. I’m proud of all the players’ performances, and the officials have been very supportive,” he said.

The captain additionally thanked Nepali cricket fans and spectators, expressing confidence that many supporters would travel to India to watch Nepal in action.

Nepal remained undefeated in the Asia and East Asia-Pacific qualifiers, ultimately clinching the championship, setting a strong tone ahead of the global tournament.
