Visit visa issue not targeted at any party or leader: Manish Jha

KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has clarified that its campaign against visit visa-related fraud and human trafficking is not targeted at any particular political party or individual leader.

The party issued the statement after media reports alleged that fake complaints were filed at the directive of RSP lawmaker Sumana Shrestha.

RSP’s acting spokesperson Manish Jha, through a post on X (formerly Twitter), stated, “We have consistently said our movement is against organized crimes tied to visit visa abuse and human trafficking. We have called for an investigation into the past 18 years and the role of all 14 Home Ministers during that time. This is not aimed at any single party or leader.”

Jha added that more than 2,000 victims came forward after the party made a public call on May 28 for people defrauded through visit visa scams to submit evidence and contact the party.

“Some of them brought supporting documents and shared their personal stories at our party office,” Jha said. “We advised them to file official complaints with the concerned government bodies and constitutional commissions. This is a normal practice for a responsible political party.”

Referring to recent media coverage that claimed fake complaints were filed under lawmaker Shrestha’s direction, Jha said, “This news has drawn our attention. We view it as a distraction from the real issue — and a continuation of the Home Minister’s calculated effort to intimidate victims, even from the Parliament rostrum.”

He concluded by saying, “The report suggesting that MP Sumana Shrestha directed the filing of false complaints is incorrect.”
