Sagarmatha Sambaad ‘amplified’ mountain-to-island climate concerns: Arzu Rana

KATHMANDU: Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana has said that the Sagarmatha Sambaad successfully amplified voices on the climate challenges faced by both mountainous regions and island nations.

Speaking at the concluding session of the Dialogue, which began last Friday, Minister Rana Deuba stated, “This edition of the Sambaad (Dialogue) has united leaders, policymakers, experts, academics, youth, civil society, international organizations, and communities from the high Himalayas to island nations in the true spirit of the Sambaad.”

She emphasized that collective efforts are now essential to implement the conclusions and achieve the shared goals.

“The Sagarmatha Sambaad is not just a program—it is a celebration of shared responsibility and the convergence of ideas,” she said. “Just as Mount Everest stands tall as a symbol of our resilience, may the outcomes of this Dialogue remind us of our collective determination.”

The Foreign Minister also said that the key issues and recommendations raised during the event will be presented at various international platforms.

These include the upcoming High-Level International Conference on Glacier Conservation in Tajikistan, the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, and COP-30, the UN Climate Change Conference scheduled to be held in Brazil later this year.

She concluded by announcing that the second edition of the Sagarmatha Sambaad will be held in 2027.
