Law and Justice Committee passes FY 2024/25 report

KATHMANDU: The Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee of the House of Representatives has approved its annual report for the fiscal year 2024/25 with amendments.

The decision was made during a committee meeting held on Friday, and the report will now be submitted to the upcoming session of the Federal Parliament.

Committee Chairperson Bimala Subedi informed that the report outlines the committee’s activities over the past year, including bill discussions, amendments, approvals, and various field monitoring visits.

“This year, the committee reviewed the implementation status of federal laws and conducted on-site monitoring of the assurance of fundamental rights, particularly focusing on detainees, prisoners, and juvenile correctional homes,” said Subedi. She also announced plans to expand human rights monitoring to buffer zone areas in different parts of the country in the coming days.

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ajay Kumar Chaurasia, who was present at the meeting, said the ministry is actively working on legal reforms. He stated that suggestions provided by the parliamentary committee are being incorporated into upcoming amendments.

“We are in the final phase of preparations to amend several laws, ensuring they align with the recommendations of this committee,” Minister Chaurasia said.

The annual report is expected to play a crucial role in guiding legislative priorities and oversight in the upcoming parliamentary session, particularly in areas of justice, human rights, and legal reform.
