Prohibitory order in Birgunj to be lifted from today

BIRGUNJ: The indefinite prohibitory order imposed in Birgunj by the local administration since midnight last Sunday will be lifted starting 7:00 AM today (Friday).

The decision was made during a meeting of the District Security Committee held on Thursday evening, according to Parsa Chief District Officer Ganesh Aryal.

The curfew was initially enforced on Saturday evening following a clash between Hindu and Muslim communities during a Hanuman Janmotsav procession earlier that afternoon. Although the initial curfew was lifted at midnight on Sunday, it was soon replaced with an indefinite one due to continued tensions.

During efforts to control the unrest, police fired 145 rounds of tear gas and two warning shots into the air. The violence left 25 people injured, including the Superintendent of Nepal Police and the Deputy Superintendent of the Armed Police Force. Additionally, 15 protesters were also hurt, and dozens of shops were vandalized.
