Congress calls meeting to formulate stance amid rising monarchist activity

KATHMANDU: The ruling Nepali Congress has called a meeting of its central executive committee to formulate an official stance on the growing activities of monarchist forces advocating for the reinstatement of former King Gyanendra Shah.

A meeting of party officials at President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s residence in Budhanilkantha on Tuesday decided to convene the central executive committee meeting on Chaitra 10 to review the monarchist movement that has gained momentum since Falgun 25.

Following the meeting, Congress spokesperson Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat confirmed the decision. “The executive committee meeting will be held on the 10th to review the situation and make necessary decisions,” he said.

He also mentioned that the party leadership briefly discussed the recent monarchist activities. “We have already built the constitution, one that was created by the people and endorsed by nearly 90% of the elected representatives. The government operates under this constitution, and we are committed to protecting these achievements,” Mahat stated.

The upcoming meeting will focus on how the party should respond to the rising monarchist movement.
