FSU election: Voting begins in most campuses

KATHMANDU: Voting for the Free Student Union (FSU) elections has commenced in Tribhuvan University (TU) campuses across the country.

The elections aim to elect new leadership for various student organizations affiliated with the university.

According to Pashupati Adhikari, Member Secretary of the FSU Central Monitoring and Coordination Committee, voting began at 8:00 am in 250 TU-affiliated campuses and 46 constituent campuses.

The voting process is expected to continue until 4:00 pm, after which the counting of votes will begin.

FSU elections, which were traditionally held every two years, have faced irregularities since 2009. The tradition of electing student leaders through FSU elections dates back to 1962 when it was held annually until 1974.

This year’s elections see candidates from various political party-affiliated student unions vying for leadership positions, reflecting heightened political enthusiasm among students.
