KIIT apologizes and suspends staff after mistreatment of Nepali students following death of Prakriti Lamsal

KATHMANDU: The Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Odisha, India, has taken disciplinary action against its staff following the abuse and mistreatment of Nepali students, alongside the mysterious death of Prakriti Lamsal, a Nepali student from Rupandehi.

In response to the eviction of over 700 Nepali students from the hostel with derogatory comments, the college announced the dismissal of two security personnel involved in the incident.

Additionally, two hostel wardens and administrative officers of the hostel have been suspended, and an internal investigation has been launched.

The institution had previously apologized for the incident on Monday but has now acted further under public pressure.

The incident followed the suspicious death of Lamsal, which has sparked concerns over the safety of Nepali students at the institution.

The KIIT administration expressed its sorrow over the loss and reiterated its commitment to the safety and welfare of its students.

As part of the response, the college has suspended two senior hostel officers and a senior administrative officer from the International Relations Office while a full investigation is conducted.

Furthermore, a control room has been set up to facilitate the return of Nepali students to campus.

The college emphasized that it prioritizes student welfare and continues to work toward ensuring the safe return of the affected students.
