KATHMANDU: The much-needed reconstruction efforts have begun in the districts affected by the devastating earthquake, with Jajarkot identified as the epicenter.

More than 600 beneficiaries in Doti have already signed agreements, and preparations are underway to disburse grant money in the coming days.

Dr Bhishma Kumar Bhusal, Executive Chief of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), confirmed that damage details are being gathered in Jajarkot and Rukum West as part of the reconstruction process.

“Last year, damage data was collected in Doti and has since been re-examined. We are now moving forward with reconstruction in the region,” Bhusal said. Approximately 9,000 beneficiaries are expected to benefit from the reconstruction efforts in Doti.

In Jajarkot and Rukum West, the collection of detailed damage assessments for private houses is in its initial phase. Bhusal informed that agreements had been made with the Disaster Studies Center, Institute of Engineering Studies, and Tribhuvan University to gather comprehensive data on the damaged homes in these western districts.

To ensure accuracy in the data collection, a team including Deputy Secretary of the NDRRMA, Bedanidhi Khanal, Sudip Bikram Bhatta, and Ram Bahadur KC, traveled to Jajarkot. They conducted training for technicians who will be deployed during the first phase of reconstruction.

The training sessions were attended by engineers from the local level, the Ministry of Urban Development, as well as national and international NGOs. A similar team has also been assigned to Rukum West to ensure the successful execution of the reconstruction process.
