SET Council gears up for walkathon and exhibition with focus on social upliftment and innovation

KATHMANDU: The Social Service, Environment, and Technology Council (SET Council), a youth-led club established in 1995 at St. Xavier’s College, is gearing up for two major events this year.

Guided by its motto, “Conserve, Serve, and Discover,” the SET Council focuses on three core areas: social upliftment, environmental conservation, and technological innovation.

The Council is comprised of 18 executive members from grade 12 and 104 junior members, who organize impactful events and projects to inspire youth and contribute to societal progress.

This year, SET will host two significant events: the SET Walkathon on February 1, 2025, and the SET Exhibition on February 9, according to Aditi Subedi, Media and Promotion Head of the SET Council.

The theme of this year’s SET Walkathon is “Walking with the Excluded.” Last year, the walkathon saw over 1,100 participants and successfully raised funds for the NGO “Hami Nepal.”

The funds were used for various charitable purposes, including supporting underprivileged communities.

This year, the walkathon will also feature a wheelchair rally for differently-abled individuals in collaboration with the Center for Independent Living (CIL).

The event will begin at St. Xavier’s College in Maitighar and culminate at Patan Durbar Square, Lalitpur.

Participants will also engage in flash mobs, cleaning activities, and a recycling program. Funds raised will be directed toward a noble cause.

The second event, the “SET Exhibition,” will take place on February 9, 2025, with the slogan “Minds in Motion: Turning Vision Into Reality.”

The exhibition will feature science projects from schools, Plus2 colleges, and A-Levels students, showcasing real-world problems faced by society and the environment, along with innovative solutions.

Last year’s exhibition included displays such as flood alarms, safety glasses for the vision-impaired, electric cars, and drawing-tracing machines.

Khabarhub is the media partner for both events.
