Nepal reiterates anti-corruption stand at UN event

KAKTHMANDU: The Government of Nepal has reaffirmed its strong commitment to combating corruption in order to promote integrity and good governance.

Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Gobinda Bahadur Karki, made the commitment on Tuesday while addressing a session of the 11th Conference of States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC), themed “Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity,” in Doha, Qatar.

In his address, Secretary Karki said the current government has adopted a strict zero-tolerance policy against corruption and is pursuing comprehensive legal, administrative, and institutional reforms. He also highlighted the efforts and commitments of the interim government formed after the historic public movement, which focused on strengthening good governance and curbing corruption.

Karki informed the international community about Nepal’s measures to criminalize bribery, abuse of authority, illicit enrichment, money laundering, and related offenses in line with the UNCAC.

Leading the Nepali delegation, he reaffirmed Nepal’s unwavering commitment to the Convention and outlined progress on implementing the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Action Plan, as well as finalizing the Second National Strategy and Action Plan against Corruption.

The conference, regarded as the world’s largest global forum dedicated to combating corruption, began on Tuesday.
