KATHMANDU: The National Vigilance Centre is set to take a more active role in strengthening the government’s anti-corruption efforts.
Prime Minister Sushila Karki, during a meeting with Centre Secretary Sarju Kumar Vaidya on Wednesday, instructed the office to reinforce its responsibilities and enhance its effectiveness.
Stating that the core demand of the Gen-Z Movement is strict action against corruption, the Prime Minister stressed that the Centre must prioritise creating an environment where corruption cannot occur in the first place, rather than relying solely on punitive actions.
Following the discussion, the Prime Minister issued four key directives. According to the PM’s Office, the plan aims to make the Centre more active and accountable in areas of development, service delivery, and corruption prevention.

Corruption prevention as a priority
The Centre must respond effectively to complaints related to delays, irregularities, and corruption within public institutions. The Prime Minister stressed the importance of preventing corruption before it happens.
Improving public service delivery
The Centre has been instructed to enhance regulation and monitoring to make public services more efficient. It must also regularly review whether its directives are being implemented.
Quality in development projects
The Prime Minister directed the Centre to ensure that development and construction projects maintain quality standards and are completed on time and within budget. Necessary manpower and financial resources should be arranged to support this.
Visible impact for citizens
The Centre’s work should have clear, tangible benefits that citizens can directly feel in their daily lives, the Prime Minister said.
