Nationwide holiday today to mourn Gen-Z protest victims



KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Home Affairs has announced a nationwide public holiday today (Wednesday) in observance of a national day of mourning for those who lost their lives during the recent Gen-Z protests. The decision follows a resolution passed by the Council of Ministers.

A statement issued by the Ministry reads: “This notice is published for the information of all that the Government of Nepal (Council of Ministers) has decided to declare a public holiday on Wednesday, September 17, in honor of those who died during the protests led by the Gen-Z on September 8 and 9.”

As many as 72 youths died during the movement. As part of the national mourning, the national flag will be flown at half-mast at all government offices across the country.
