Shekhar Koirala and Prachanda hold two-hour meeting at Khumaltar

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala held a two-hour-long meeting with CPN (Maoist Centre) chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ at the latter’s residence in Khumaltar on Thursday.

Koirala, who has publicly expressed dissatisfaction with the coalition government led by KP Sharma Oli, visited Prachanda for political talks focused on the current national context. According to Koirala’s secretariat, the two leaders discussed contemporary political developments during their meeting.

The meeting took place as the Oli-led government completes one year in office. Koirala has been openly critical of the government’s performance, accusing it of failing to meet public expectations despite holding a near two-thirds majority. He has called for exploring alternative political arrangements.

Although full details of the discussion have not been disclosed, the meeting is viewed as significant amid growing discontent within the Nepali Congress and heightened political maneuvering among opposition figures.

Prachanda has himself criticized the current government, alleging increased corruption and disorder in various sectors since he was removed from power to form the seven-party coalition. He has accused the government of protecting its allies involved in irregularities while targeting the opposition, a concern that reportedly featured in his conversation with Koirala.
