Laborer electrocuted while working on electricity pole in Dhulikhel

KATHMANDU: A laborer died of electrocution while working on an electricity pole in Dhulikhel today.

Upesh Pariyar, 28, from Ishworpur Municipality-12, Sarlahi, was electrocuted around 11:30 am while working on an 11,000-volt high-tension line pole in front of the District Administration Office at Dhulikhel Municipality-7.

The pole was part of an extension project managed by the Nepal Electricity Authority through the Kavrepalanchok Distribution Center.

According to the District Police Office, Pariyar was climbing the pole to connect wires when he was suddenly electrocuted. Deputy Superintendent of Police Min Bahadur Ghale said a police team led by Inspector Dinesh Bahadur Kunwar has been assigned to investigate the incident.

Initial reports suggest that the power line was energized without informing Pariyar, which led to the fatal accident. The Kavrepalanchok Distribution Center had issued a public notice on Friday warning people not to touch electrical equipment or leave livestock near the line, as the 11 kV line would be activated starting Saturday.

The deceased’s body has been removed from the site and taken to Dhulikhel Hospital for an autopsy.
