KATHMANDU: Under the Janata Awas Program, 20 houses are set to be constructed for poor families in Kailali and Kanchanpur districts during the current fiscal year 2024/25.

The initiative is being carried out through the Urban Development and Building Office, Kailali, with funding from the provincial government.

Rohit Adhikari, information officer at the office, said that 10 two-room houses will be built in each district.

Construction work has already started on 15 houses—10 in Kailali’s Bhajani Municipality Wards 2, 5, 8, and 9, and five in Kanchanpur’s Dodhara-Chandani Municipality Wards 3 and 7.

Additionally, five more houses will be constructed in Bhimdatta Municipality Wards 11 and 12 in Kanchanpur. The beneficiaries for these homes have already been selected, and the construction agreements will be signed soon, Adhikari said.

The provincial government has allocated Rs 7 million for the project this year. According to Adhikari, the estimated cost of each house is Rs 483,991 in Kailali and Rs 496,233 in Kanchanpur.

The office will contribute Rs 350,000 per house, while the remaining amount will be managed through contributions from the beneficiaries themselves.

The office aims to complete all construction within the current fiscal year.
