KMC announces free training for over 2,000 participants in Skill Fair 2025

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has called for applications for the upcoming Skill Fair 2025, aiming to provide free skill-based training to 2,082 individuals.

The fair, which is set to begin from the 20th of this month, will feature training sessions in 34 different categories across 10 sectors.

Engineer Shailendra Jha, coordinator of the Skill Fair Implementation Committee, said that preparations are underway to conduct the training in collaboration with government agencies, non-governmental organizations, private sector institutions, and donor agencies.

The initiative seeks to enhance employment opportunities by equipping participants with practical skills in high-demand sectors.

According to KMC, priority will be given to individuals residing permanently or temporarily within the metropolitan area, residents of landfill site-affected areas, people with disabilities, and those who were previously engaged in business on the roadside. Nepali citizens between the ages of 18 and 58 will be eligible to participate.

The training will span 30 days, with 100 hours of instruction delivered through six classes per day. The sectors covered in the training include information and communication technology, support skills for people with special needs, electrical repair, garment fabrication, construction, hospitality, automobile repair, art and sculpture, traditional skills, and agriculture and personal care.

In the ICT sector, the training will cover digital marketing, drones, robotics, fiber optic technology, and applications of artificial intelligence. Support skill training will be available for those working with people with special needs, including housekeeping and care services.

The electrical sector will offer training in laptop repair, AC and refrigerator servicing, CCTV repair, and mobile phone repair.

The garment sector will provide courses on garment fabrication and basic fashion design, while the construction field will include electrician work, plumbing, masonry, welding, and carpentry. In the hospitality sector, training will be offered for baristas, waiters, fast food service, and bakery work.

The automobile sector will include maintenance of electric vehicles, light vehicle equipment, and electric and fuel-powered two-wheelers.

Art and sculpture training will focus on traditional crafts such as thangka painting and terracotta work. There will also be training for individuals interested in astrology and priesthood. In agriculture and personal care, the fair will offer flower arrangement, beautician services including makeup and hair, nail technology, hair cutting, and an introduction to the stock market.
