Prachanda accuses royalists of trying to reverse Nepal’s historical progress

KATHMANDU: Maoist Center Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has accused certain groups, particularly royalists, of attempting to reverse the course of Nepal’s history.

Addressing the release ceremony of the book ‘Aitihashik Nepal Mandal’ by Rajendra Shrestha, Dahal condemned the recent activities of the royalists as efforts to turn back the wheel of history.

“Some people are now trying to turn back the wheel of history,” he said, referring to the royalists’ actions. He added that during his campaign in the Tarai, he had warned that any attempt to revert would be another foolishness and emphasized that such audacity should be avoided.

Dahal further urged opposition to the attempt by reactionaries to claim leadership over the people, stressing that the responsibility of safeguarding the rights obtained through the Federal Democratic Republic lies with those who facilitated the change.

The former Prime Minister also acknowledged the Maoist-led government’s failure in effectively communicating the significance of the rights granted by the new republic.

“Our weakness is that we were not able to explain properly about the rights granted by the Federal Democratic Republic and the progress achieved,” he said, highlighting that it would be incorrect to claim that nothing was achieved during their tenure.
