Chief whips hold discussions on parliamentary proceedings

KATHMANDU: Chief whips from various political parties convened at Singha Durbar to discuss matters related to parliamentary operations.

The discussion was held at the parliamentary office of the UML in Singha Durbar.

According to UML Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula, the meeting was attended by Congress Chief Whip Shyam Ghimire, UML’s Bartaula, Maoist Center’s Hit Raj Pandey, and Santosh Pariyar, the Chief Whip from the Rastriya Swatantra Party.

The government has yet to convene the winter session of Parliament, formally referred to as the legislative session. Although it was expected to be called during the week of January, the opposition has accused the government of avoiding parliamentary scrutiny by issuing five ordinances instead.

Meanwhile, ruling party leaders claim the government is preparing to call the session by January 28.

Sources from the Prime Minister’s Secretariat suggest that the Cabinet may decide to open the session following today’s meeting.
