DDC pays 31 years of property tax to Kathmandu Metropolitan City

KATHMANDU: The Dairy Development Corporation (DDC) has paid property taxes for 31 years in a single transaction to the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC).

As per the valuation conducted on January 12, the DDC paid Rs 10.287 million in property taxes to KMC. According to Ward-26 Secretary Kedar Rimal, the payment covers property taxes from the fiscal year 1992/93 to 2024/25.

Previously, KMC’s Revenue Department had issued notices to 12 state-owned commercial entities, including the DDC, to settle their property taxes.

The tax rates and collection procedures are governed by the Metropolitan City’s Revenue Act, 2018, and the Economic Act, which outline the calculation of property taxes after a two-year construction grace period.

Revenue Department Chief Deepak Adhikari said, “Following the notices, taxpayers have started responding. This is a positive development. Outstanding taxes will be collected as per the provisions of the Economic Act.”

Adhikari also explained that if taxpayers fail to pay taxes, the Revenue Department or the respective ward office will issue a notice via letter, email, or message, giving a 35-day deadline.

If additional time is requested, the Chief Administrative Officer can extend the deadline by up to 10 days upon the recommendation of the Revenue Department head.
