KATHMANDU: CPN-UML chairperson KP Sharma Oli arrived at the polling venue of the party’s 11th general convention only after 7 pm on Tuesday. After filing his candidacy on Monday, Oli had remained absent from the convention venue throughout the day and appeared only in the evening.
Upon reaching the polling venue, Oli was seen chatting on stage with rival chair candidate and senior vice-chair Ishwar Pokharel. Leaders Yubaraj Gyawali and Bishnu Paudel were also present on the stage alongside them.
According to Youth Association spokesperson Niraj Paudel, Oli had been at the venue for around half an hour.
“Chair Oli had not come throughout the day and arrived only this evening,” Paudel said. “He was seen in a light mood, joking and conversing with chair candidate Ishwar Pokharel on the stage. Yubaraj Gyawali and Bishnu Paudel were also with him.”
Paudel confirmed that Oli reached the convention venue after 7 pm, adding that other leaders were also gradually joining the discussion.
Meanwhile, voting has yet to begin due to technical issues in installing the electronic voting machines. Delegates are waiting in line at the polling venue, and leaders present there said it may take some more time before the voting process starts.
