Integrated election security plan approved; security workshops to be held across all seven provinces

KATHMANDU: The Central Security Committee has approved the Integrated Election Security Plan ahead of the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5.

The decision was made during a meeting held on Sunday at Singha Durbar under the chairmanship of Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal. According to Home Ministry spokesperson and joint secretary Anand Kafle, the plan was endorsed after discussions on the report prepared by a task force representing all four security agencies.

Kafle said the plan outlines the division of roles and responsibilities among security agencies and includes measures to address political activities, potential cross-border infiltration, and other security concerns.

The committee has also decided to recommend the deployment of the Nepal Army for election security through the Ministry of Defence, as proposed in the integrated plan.

Kafle added that strict legal action will be taken against activities that incite violence or intimidate the public.

In addition, the committee has decided to conduct province-level security workshops targeting the upcoming election. The first workshop will begin on Mangsir 9 in Lumbini Province.
