Nepal, India agree to strengthen border security cooperation

KATHMANDU: The Armed Police Force (APF) of Nepal and India’s Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) have agreed to enhance coordination and cooperation to make joint border patrols and border security more effective.

The ninth bilateral coordination meeting, held in New Delhi recently, was attended by the Nepali delegation led by APF Inspector General Raju Aryal and the Indian delegation led by SSB Director General Sanjay Singhal.

The discussions focused on controlling border crimes, curbing drug trafficking, preventing illegal smuggling and unauthorized cross-border movement, and sharing information and training.

Deputy Superintendent of Armed Police Shailendra Thapa, Joint Spokesperson of the APF, said the meeting also reviewed the implementation of agendas from the eighth coordination meeting held in Kathmandu last December.

Participants discussed strategies for the effective implementation of prior agreements and explored future measures to strengthen joint border management.
