Isolated downpours expected today

KATHMANDU: With the monsoon system still active across the country, several provinces are bracing for heavy rainfall and potential weather-related hazards, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

Moisture from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal continues to fuel widespread cloud cover and rainfall, raising concerns about landslides, rising river levels, and travel disruptions.

In its latest weather bulletin, the Weather Forecasting Division reports that skies will remain generally cloudy across the country this afternoon.

Moderate rainfall is likely in some hilly areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim Provinces, as well as scattered areas elsewhere. Additionally, isolated heavy rain is expected in one or two places in Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim Provinces.

For tonight, the forecast also predicts generally cloudy conditions nationwide, with the possibility of moderate rainfall in hilly regions of Koshi, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim Provinces, and scattered showers in other parts of the country. Heavy rain is possible in isolated areas of Koshi and Sudurpaschim Provinces.

The Department has urged the public to remain alert, warning of potential landslides and debris flows, a rise in water levels in rivers and streams, and possible disruptions to transportation due to the ongoing rainfall.
