Rabi Lamichhane transferred from Rupandehi prison to Nakkhu

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) chair Rabi Lamichhane, who was being held in Bhairahawa prison on remand in connection with the cooperative fraud case, has been transferred to Nakkhu prison in Lalitpur.

According to the Department of Prison Management, the decision to relocate him was made on Friday based on a request filed by Lamichhane himself.

Following the decision, RSP leaders traveled to Bhairahawa, where Lamichhane was released from the facility earlier today for the transfer. Party spokesperson Manish Jha confirmed to Khabarhub that they were present in Bhairahawa during the process.

Lamichhane had been in Bhairahawa prison since April 7. Earlier, on April 4, the Butwal bench of the Tulsipur High Court overturned the Rupandehi District Court’s order granting him release on a bail of Rs 10 million, directing instead that he be held in custody pending trial. He was subsequently arrested in Kathmandu on April 5 and transferred to Rupandehi the following day.
