KMC launches Digital Address System in Ward 26

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) on Tuesday inaugurated a new Digital Address System (DAS) in Ward No. 26, aiming to make the ward more technology-friendly and improve access to house information.

Khyamraj Tiwari, Chairperson of Ward 26 and Coordinator of KMC’s Good Governance Committee, inaugurated the system at the ward office in Lainchaur by installing the first digital house number plate labeled ‘09 Lakshya 6111’.

The system employs Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, allowing residents and authorities to access detailed information about each house in the ward with ease. “Once the system is fully installed, the complete data of all houses in the ward will be easily available,” Tiwari said.

Ward 26 covers areas including Lainchaur, Galkopakha, Thamel, Kapurdhara, Samakhushi, Ranibari, and the New Bus Park. While KMC has been using the metric address system for the past two decades, the ward is the first to implement the upgraded NFC-based system.

Each digital number plate will display the old address and street name alongside a QR code and NFC chip. Tiwari added that the plates will feature both the Universal Google Plus code and the Nepali local code, enhancing navigational accuracy and accessibility.
