Oli govt shields corrupt ministers: Gyanendra Shahi

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chief Whip Gyanendra Shahi on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s government, accusing it of actively protecting corrupt ministers and undermining accountability.

Speaking during a meeting of the House of Representatives, Shahi alleged that the government has systematically shielded a series of corruption scandals instead of taking decisive action.

He further accused Prime Minister Oli of personally protecting corrupt officials, questioning the government’s moral integrity and commitment to good governance.

“Nepal was once known as the land of Sagarmatha and Buddha,” Shahi said. “Now, you may as well call it the land of corruption.”

Raising concerns over recent scandals, Shahi questioned why no action had been taken in the visit visa-related human trafficking case and the audio leak involving ministers in bribery deals.

“Why is the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority silent? Why are other state bodies acting like spectators?” he asked, demanding the arrest and prosecution of those involved, including ministers who have already resigned.

Expressing deep frustration over the government’s inaction, Shahi warned of long-term consequences.

“History will judge this government,” he said. “You cannot continue protecting the corrupt. Record this — write it in the Guinness Book if you must.”
