Filipino climber dies on Everest



KATHMANDU: A Filipino national, Philipp II Santiago, has died while attempting to climb Mount Everest.

According to the Department of Tourism, Santiago passed away while resting at Camp 4 on the mountain last night.

He had been climbing Everest with the assistance of Snow Horizon Treks and Expeditions Pvt. Ltd.

A statement from the department noted that a member of the climbing team reported this morning that Santiago had reached Camp 4 between 7pm and 8 pm in an exhausted state and died while resting there.

Authorities have initiated the necessary procedures to bring his body down to the base camp.
