Police bust fake document factory in Kathmandu, three arrested

KATHMANDU: Police have raided a factory involved in forging official documents of government and financial institutions and arrested three individuals in connection with the operation.

The arrested have been identified as Anjani Bayalkoti, 46, of Bhimsenthapa Rural Municipality-1 in Gorkha; Nirmal Khadka, 28, of Champadevi Rural Municipality-7 in Okhaldhunga; and Anju Khatri, 23, of Kailash Rural Municipality-2, Chhayangdhung in Makawanpur.

A team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office carried out the raid on Wednesday.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ramesh Basnet, the group had set up a facility in Tarkeshwor Municipality-7, Futung, from where they were producing forged government documents.

The factory was found to be producing fake documents such as educational certificates, local government documents, land ownership papers, driving licenses, and documents from banks and financial institutions.

The suspects have been handed over to the District Police Range, Kathmandu, for further investigation and legal action. Police said that Bayalkoti had been running the forgery operation for the past eight years and was the mastermind behind the scheme.

He is reported to have rented a room in Futung to operate the illicit business and hired two assistants, paying them a monthly salary of NPR 10,000 to 15,000. The group was also found to be producing forged marriage certificates used to apply for dependent visas.

During the raid, police recovered a significant number of fake documents from the room.
