KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case against former Minister for Information and Communication Technology, Mohan Bahadur Basnet, in connection with the Teramox case.
Basnet, who currently serves as a Member of Parliament from Sindhupalchowk Constituency No. 2, has been named alongside 15 others, including the then Chairman of the Nepal Telecommunications Authority, Digambar Jha, and several companies.
The CIAA filed a corruption case at the Special Court on Thursday, accusing them of causing a loss of Rs 3.21 billion to Rs 8.377 billion in public funds.
The CIAA filed the case against them concluding its probe into alleged financial irregularities involving the Nepal Telecommunications Authority’s (NTA) procurement of the Telecommunication Traffic Monitoring and Fraud Control System (TERAMOX), following complaints of misuse involving millions of rupees.
The CIAA stated that the case involves alleged irregularities during Basnet’s tenure, and that legal action has been initiated against all individuals and entities involved.
