Rato Machindranath chariot to be pulled to Jawalakhel on May 29, Bhoto Jatra on June 1

KATHMANDU: The revered chariot of Rato Machindranath, the god of rain and prosperity, will be pulled from Lagankhel to Jawalakhel on May 29, according to astrologers.

Astrologer Kirtikiran Joshi informed that the auspicious date for moving the chariot was determined on Thursday during a gathering of astrologers at Sohrakhuttepati in Mangalbazar.

As per the traditional sajta (astrological calculation), May 29 has been deemed the most favorable day for the chariot procession.

The iconic Bhoto Jatra, where the sacred vest is displayed to the public, will be held four days later, on June 1, at Jawalakhel.

The centuries-old festival draws thousands of devotees and marks a significant event in Lalitpur’s cultural calendar.

This year’s Rato Machindranath Jatra will formally conclude after the chariot is taken to Bungamati, the deity’s original home, accompanied by traditional music and rituals.
