High-level political mechanism meeting scheduled for Wednesday

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called a meeting of the high-level political mechanism for Wednesday.

According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, the decision to hold the meeting came after a discussion between PM Oli, who also chairs CPN-UML, and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba on Tuesday afternoon.

The meeting is expected to take place at Baluwatar, either in the afternoon or evening.

Both Oli and Deuba are likely to attend the meeting, according to political leaders.

“It could either begin with mechanism members only, followed by the presence of the party leaders, or they may all meet together from the beginning,” a member of the mechanism told Khabarhub. “The meeting will discuss the latest political developments, the way forward for the government, and matters related to appointments.”

Earlier today, the Cabinet also met at Baluwatar. Meanwhile, Congress leaders—including General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma, along with Shekhar Koirala and SP Saud—have been publicly questioning the government’s slow pace of work, prompting Oli to hold a series of meetings.

The high-level mechanism includes senior vice-chair Ishwar Pokhrel, Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel, General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel, and Chief Political Advisor to the PM, Bishnu Rimal from UML.

From Congress, the members are Vice-president Purna Bahadur Khadka, Gagan Thapa, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, and Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba.
