American citizen to be deported for chanting pro-monarchy slogans

KATHMANDU: The Government of Nepal has decided to deport an American citizen who was arrested for chanting pro-monarchy slogans in Kathmandu.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, 58-year-old Julian Kirpal will be deported and barred from entering Nepal for the next two years. Kirpal had arrived in Nepal on a tourist visa.

He was arrested on March 27 from Maitighar after he was found publicly chanting slogans in favor of reinstating the monarchy in Nepal. Following his arrest, police handed him over to the Immigration Department for further investigation.

After completing its inquiry, the department has initiated the deportation process, citing a breach of visa conditions and engagement in political activities while on a tourist visa.
