KATHMANDU: Ruling Nepali Congress General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma have expressed concern over the ongoing teachers’ protest in Kathmandu, led by the Nepal Teachers’ Federation.
The general secretaries met with protesting teacher leaders on Monday evening to discuss ways to address their demands. Teachers have been staging an academic strike in the Maitighar-Naya Baneshwor area since April 2, demanding the prompt enactment of the School Education Act.
According to General Secretary Thapa’s secretariat, both leaders assured the teachers that the Nepali Congress supports their demands and will take the initiative to resolve the issue.
The Federation, however, has decided to continue its boycott of all academic activities, including the national student enrollment campaign, the checking of SEE answer sheets, and the upcoming Class 12 examination set to begin on April 24.
The prolonged strike is likely to impact the school calendar and disrupt academic processes nationwide if a resolution is not reached soon.
