TEXAS: The Texas State Legislature has officially declared March 13 as ‘Nepali Lumbini Advocacy Day’ to recognize the cultural and spiritual significance of Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha.
The Texas House of Representatives passed Resolution 530 on March 13, granting formal recognition to ‘Nepali Lumbini Advocacy Day.’
The resolution was introduced by Pakistani-origin Texas State Representative Suleman Lalani. The announcement coincided with the visit of five Nepali mayors from the Lumbini Circuit, who were present during the House session.
The resolution highlights Lumbini’s historical and spiritual importance, noting its designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and its status as a major pilgrimage destination for Buddhists worldwide.
The 89th Texas House of Representatives has pledged to observe March 13, 2025, as ‘Nepali Lumbini Advocacy Day’ and has extended a warm welcome to Nepali delegations working to promote Lumbini’s global recognition.
The initiative to pass the resolution was led by Netra Pandey, Vice President of the Non-Resident Nepali Association of America and Chief of the Department of Tourism, alongside civic leader Prabhat Dixit.
According to Pandey, the Nepali community in Texas will celebrate ‘Nepali Lumbini Advocacy Day’ annually to promote Nepal’s tourism and cultural heritage.
