FSU election process stalled in 11 TU constituent campuses

KATHMANDU: The Free Students Union (FSU) election process has come to a halt in 11 constituent campuses of Tribhuvan University (TU) due to ongoing disputes among student organizations, according to Pashupati Adhikari, Director of the Directorate of Student Welfare and Sports.

The primary issue stems from disagreements between student groups regarding the admission process, leading to delays in initiating the election procedures.

Out of the 62 constituent campuses under TU, six are located within the Kathmandu Valley and five are situated outside.

The campuses affected in the Kathmandu Valley include Nepal Law Campus, Shankar Dev Campus, Public Youth Campus, Saraswati Multiple Campus, Bishwabhasa Campus, and Thapathali Engineering Campus.

Similarly, the campuses outside the Valley facing disruptions are Siddhanath Multiple Campus in Mahendranagar, Butwal Multiple Campus, Bhairahawa Multiple Campus, Biratnagar Mahendra Morang Campus, and Ramswarup Ramsagar Multiple Campus in Janakpur.

“We have also instructed to hold elections in campuses that have not yet moved forward with the election process through mutual understanding,” said Adhikari. “This time, we are preparing to hold elections in all the constituent campuses.”

In the previous election held on March 19, 2023, nine constituent campuses had failed to conduct elections.

Despite these challenges, TU has set a deadline of March 15 for the publicity of the FSU election until midnight, with the elections scheduled to take place on March 18 across all constituent campuses.
