CPN-UML election battle: Oli and Pokharel camps finalize strategies

KATHMANDU: Competition between CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli and Senior Vice-Chair Ishwar Pokharel has been confirmed for the party’s 11th general convention. Following the announcement of the election schedule, leaders from both camps have begun organizing their panels.

After the first day’s closed session, Pokharel’s group gathered at their contact office in Thapagaun to finalize their panel. The group is reportedly preparing to promote youth leaders and announce their panel soon.

However, Pokharel’s team appears unwilling to finalize their panel until Oli announces his team.

Key figures in Pokharel’s discussions include Vice-Chair Surendra Pandey, leaders Ashtalakshmi Shakya, Yubaraj Gyawali, Central Committee member Binda Pandey, and central member Rachana Khadka. Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai, Gokarna Bist, and Central Committee member Karna Thapa are also part of the deliberations.

Meanwhile, Oli’s faction is meeting at his residence in Gundu to discuss their team strategy. Senior and experienced leaders are expected to feature prominently in Oli’s panel, with Vice-Chairs Ram Bahadur Thapa Badal, Bishnu Paudel, Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali, and Bishnu Rimal involved in consultations.

Following the conclusion of the first day’s closed session, both camps are now focused on strategic planning for the upcoming election.
