President asks govt. to solely focus on election

President Ramchandra Paudel has suggested that the government should entirely focus on holding the forthcoming House of Representatives (HoR) election scheduled for March 5, 2026. Receiving the annual report of the National Security Council of the fiscal year 2081/82 BS at the Office of the President on Sunday, the President asked the government to discharge its responsibility without impacting the upcoming polls, President’s Press Advisor Kiran Pokharel said.

UML Convention to extend by 3 days

The election schedule for the 11th general convention of the CPN-UML has been made public, confirming that the convention, initially set to conclude in three days, will now extend by an additional three days. The election timetable, announced on Sunday during the closed session of the convention, outlines the process for selecting the party’s new leadership. While the convention was originally scheduled to conclude on Mangsir 29 (December 15), it is now likely to end on Poush 2 (December 17) if no disputes arise.

Pokharel questions Oli’s leadership style, calls for review to protect UML’s image

Senior Vice-Chair of the CPN-UML, Ishwar Pokharel, has called for a serious review of the party’s leadership style, warning that the current approach risks damaging the party’s image. Speaking during the closed session of the party’s 11th general convention on Sunday, Pokharel stressed that the convention should focus on strengthening party unity. Recalling the party’s fifth general convention, he highlighted its historic role in safeguarding dissenting views within the party.

UML closed session: No presidium formed, Oli runs session alone

CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli has moved ahead in a way that sidelines leaders seen as challenging his authority. After excluding the faction led by Senior Vice Chair Ishwar Pokhrel from the stage during the opening session, Oli made another unusual decision during the closed session that began on Sunday. In previous general conventions, it was customary to form a presidium to run the closed session. This time, however, Oli did not form any presidium.

CIAA files corruption case against Congress leader Chalise

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case against Nepali Congress leader Santosh Chalise, former mayor of Gokarneshwar Municipality in Kathmandu. The case was registered at the Special Court on Sunday, accusing Chalise, also a former Member of Parliament and chair of the parliamentary Finance Committee, of amassing illegal wealth.

NEPSE falls below 2,600 points, turnover exceeds Rs 4 billion

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index declined by 12.50 points on Sunday, slipping below the 2,600-point mark to close at 2,594.87 points. The total trading turnover for the day stood at Rs 4.74 billion. Among the traded companies, the share prices of 197 declined, while 56 recorded gains. Share prices of six companies remained unchanged.

Leadership for Social Justice program concludes Nepal Edition, highlighting ethical youth leadership

The Nepal Edition of the Leadership for Social Justice Program (LSJP), led by Initiatives of Change USA (IofC USA), concluded today, after five weeks of learning, reflection, and collective work in Lalitpur. The program brought together 27 young leaders from across Nepal working in civic engagement, social justice, education, and grassroots organizing. Initiatives of Change USA is part of a global movement that links personal change with social transformation, supporting individuals and communities committed to ethical leadership, dialogue, and responsibility in public life.

NC Acting President Khadka calls emergency meeting of Nepali Congress CWC

The Nepali Congress (NC) has called an emergency meeting of its Central Working Committee (CWC).  NC Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka has called the meeting for Monday, at 9 am, according to Nepali Congress Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Poudel. The session will be held at the party’s Central Office in Sanepa.

Contracts will be cancelled if work remains unfinished: Minister Ghising

Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Kulman Ghising has warned that development projects left incomplete will result in the cancellation of contracts. Speaking at a discussion program in Shuklagandaki Municipality in Tanahun on Sunday, Minister Ghising emphasized that delays in development work will not be tolerated. “If construction entrepreneurs fail to work on infrastructure projects, contracts will be terminated immediately and a new process initiated,” he stated.

Astalaxmi Shakya and Yubaraj Gyawali to step down from UML Central Committee

UML Vice Chairs Astalaxmi Shakya and Yubaraj Gyawali have announced that they will resign from their party responsibilities following the conclusion of the party’s 11th General Convention. Speaking at a Central Committee meeting held prior to the convention, the party’s publicity department chief Rajendra Gautam confirmed that both leaders will not seek any party positions and will step down from their roles.

Minister Ghising directs early completion of Muglin–Pokhara road

Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Kulman Ghising has directed contractors to expedite the completion of the under-construction Muglin–Pokhara road. During an inspection of the western section from Jamune to Pokhara, Minister Ghising instructed construction entrepreneurs to finish the project within the stipulated timeframe and ensure smoother traffic movement.

Birgunj Metropolitan City clears encroachments from BP Park

Birgunj Metropolitan City has removed businesses operating illegally on BP Park near Ghantaghar Chowk as part of a campaign to reorganize public spaces in the city. Metropolitan Mayor Rajesh Man Singh said the action was taken to clear fruit, vegetable and other temporary shops that had encroached on the park area, making it disorganised. “We began removing the unplanned market this morning using excavators. Traders who had been operating here are clearing their structures,” Mayor Singh said.
