UML closed session: No presidium formed, Oli runs session alone

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli has moved ahead in a way that sidelines leaders seen as challenging his authority.

After excluding the faction led by Senior Vice Chair Ishwar Pokhrel from the stage during the opening session, Oli made another unusual decision during the closed session that began on Sunday.

In previous general conventions, it was customary to form a presidium to run the closed session. This time, however, Oli did not form any presidium.

Although he addressed the closed session shortly after it began, he showed no interest in constituting a presidium.

Currently, Oli alone is steering the discussions in the closed-session hall. Had a presidium been formed, it would have required representation from the Ishwar Pokhrel faction as well. To avoid this, Oli is conducting the closed session single-handedly.
