Gen-Z leader Majid Ansari calls on govt to immediately dismiss Attorney General Sabita Bhandari

KATHMANDU: Gen-Z movement leader Majid Ansari has called on the government to immediately remove Attorney General Sabita Bhandari, accusing her of abusing her constitutional authority to protect those involved in the illegal extraction and sale of eggs from teenage girls.

In a statement issued Friday, Ansari said the Attorney General’s decision not to prosecute those implicated in the Hope Fertility case was a “direct assault on constitutional principles, rule of law and public trust.”

“It is deeply alarming that in a country led by a woman Prime Minister, the woman Attorney General herself is involved in a decision that deprives young girls of justice,” he stated.

Ansari argued that Bhandari’s position has become morally untenable, given that her family members, including her daughter, were associated with the fertility clinic accused of exploiting teenage girls.

He urged the Prime Minister to dismiss her under Article 157 of the Constitution, reassess all evidence, ensure prosecution, and provide protection and compensation to victims.

The controversy stems from allegations that Hope Fertility & Diagnostic illegally harvested eggs from girls aged 16–17 and sold them for up to Rs 1.8 million. Although the CIB submitted evidence recommending prosecution, the Attorney General’s Office decided on October 16 not to pursue the case. Bhandari has denied involvement in the decision.

Ansari warned that the interim citizen government, formed on the mandate of the Gen-Z uprising, risks losing credibility if it fails to act swiftly and ethically.
